Introduction to beekeeping Course January-March 2012

Sorry, registration is closed and the class is full.  Please contact me if you would be interested in a one day class in early March.

This course is designed for new and beginning beekeepers focusing on beekeeping fundamentals essential for keeping bees healthy and happy.

Topics covered:

•Natural history of pollination
•Honey Bee biology
•Hive management techniques
•Pest and disease biology
•Integrated pest management techniques
•Hive products

This course will be taught through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, guest speakers, and video clips.

Field Day May 22, 2011

All are invited to attend the Apiary Field Day for beginner beekeepers hosted by the Mt. Baker Beekeeper Association and Honey Bee Awareness Project.

This event will cover essentials steps for keeping bees healthy during the first year and beyond.

Topic covered will include:

  • Keeping your smoker lit
  • Hive inspections and equipment handling
  • Brood inspections
  • Strategies for monitoring varroa mites and other pests/diseases
  • Keeping your bees fed
  • Sampling bees for diagnostic testing
  • And other concepts helpful for getting started

Because of the great amount of interest we will hold two sessions.
