Washington State University’s Bee Program

Bee Informed Partnership

The Bee Informed Partnership is an extension project that endeavors to decrease the number of honey bee colonies that die over the winter. Managed honey bees are important to our agricultural security because many fruits, nuts, vegetables, and other crops require bees to pollinate them to ensure production of quality produce. Unfortunately, the rate of mortality suffered by overwintering colonies over the last 4 years has been unsustainably high, threatening the livelihoods of not only the beekeepers who manage bees, but those who rely on bees for pollination.

Pollinator Partnership

he Pollinator Partnership’s mission is to promote the health of pollinators, critical to food and ecosystems, through conservation, education, and research. Signature initiatives include the NAPPC (North American Pollinator Protection Campaign), National Pollinator Week, and the Ecoregional Planting Guides.

Inspired Beeing

This blog is a collection of quick-witted posts on the start of my journey. It is also an exploration into the story behind bees, and how they have struck the hearts and minds of beekeepers, activists, foodies, entrepreneurs, authors, celebrities, and fictional characters world-wide.

University of Minnesota Honey Bee Research Lab

Dr. Marla Spivak, Distinguished McKnight Professor, runs the University’s Bee Lab, with excellent technical support of Mr. Gary Reuter. The goal of the Bee Lab’s research is to promote the health of bee pollinators.  Current federally funded research projects include studies on factors causing Colony Collapse Disorder, breeding bees for resistance to diseases and parasites, and discovering the benefits of propolis (bee-collected plant resins) to bee and human health.

Honey Bee Ware

Honey Bee Ware is a family owned and operated business.  Our family has been keeping bees since the turn of the 20th century and we are currently training our sixth generation.
